The supervisor of Cosmetica at the Black chain shopping center in Katutura, Windhoek got the shock of her life shortly after opening for business on Monday when her colleagues and a former employee staged a robbery as she was getting ready for someone to pick up cash for depositing.

The supervisor, identified as Lavinia David, was held at knife point before the suspects got away with more than N$ 100 000 in cash.

Police arrested two suspects a few hours after the robbery. However, another employee and a former co-worker are still at large.

NewsonOne visited the premises after the robbery where David narrated that came to work as usual, prepared the money and was waiting for someone to collect it.

David said the current employee was accompanied by a former co-worker who was dressed in their uniform so she assumed he had returned to work.

She added that the current employee moved to where was standing while preparing the money.

According to David, the employee pretended to be searching for something. “He saw where the money was, he took the money and threw it to the other guy who was standing at the door and ran away,” narrated David.

According to Khomas police spokesperson Silas Shipandeni, police have leads on the two suspects who are still on the run and that the investigation continues.

“We happen to arrest two individuals, one of them is the driver of the getaway vehicle while the second one is a suspect who carried out the robbery. We recovered an amount of about N$18 000, which we believe is part of the money that was stolen,” said Shipandeni.

Shipandeni urged the suspects on the run to hand themselves in because they are known and that their time will come to an end soon.

Shipandeni further urged business owners to run background checks on prospective employees before recruiting them.
